The Rapperswil - Jona Municipal Museum, Zurich

What looks like an angular stack of gilded domino's is actully the bronze facade of the Rapperswil-Jona Municipal Museum designed by the architects at mlzd. The structure sits on the banks of Lake Zurich and boats a history of over 700 years. The small, fortified complex was built in the late 13th century and a number of extravagant interior have survived today. Most recently, it underwent extensive restructuring in 2011, but will open it's doors to the public next month. Wedged precariously between the old, fortified stone tower and a newer structure sits the new, main entrance, clearly juxtaposing and offsetting the old, "heightening awareness for the threshold to the latter." The shape of the new building has been developed out of the lateral facades of the old buildings.

Over in Madrid, the people behind the cultural complex Matadero have decided to celebrate the world of non-fiction cinema by dedicating a brilliant new space, which includes a massive film library, film set, and two movie theaters to the subject. The space, designed by the Spanish architects at ch+qs, is exploding with vibrant lighting, which casts dramatic shadow, creating exciting and dynamic points of interest.

PKO Bank makes saving and investing feel glamorous.

Majkut took inspiration for the interior design from the already existing company graphics which consisted of black, white, and gold.

Majkut explains that "a bi-dimensional pattern was completely transformed by introducing and additional dimension: it was made spatial by being projected on the tri-dimension model of the interior. "The architect went on, "to achieve this effect special software for parametric design was used, which allowed for the subtle grid of lines converging in one abstract point. "The grid form of the wall came straight from the logo of the bank, then transformed into an exciting design feature within the space.

After graduating from the Tasmanian School of Art in 2002, Sean Edward Whelan left Australia to discover the mysteries of Japan, settling in Joetsu, Niigata where he began working as an English teacher and now works as an illustrator and artist.

His lovely pencil drawings depicting a rich texture of traditional Japanese buildings, bridges and lanterns, create singular super structures in the shape of people. Whelan had his first solo show earlier this year at No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne.
